About
Bet on this horse…
Founding artist and driving force behind Dark Horse Designs, Amanda Currie is reinventing the traditional. She is a designer/maker from Newmarket, Ontario, who creates custom jewellery and accessories for people who want to manifest healing and nurture their personal growth. She curates gemstone energies to facilitate personal transformation and creates each unique piece with intention for growth and healing.
Not your grandma’s jewels…
At Dark Horse Designs there is an emphasis on the unique. Inspired by a wide range of creators from Tim Burton, Lewis Carroll and Edgar Allan Poe to Stevie Nicks, George Harrison and David Bowie, Currie is known for bringing an eclectic style to her designs through her play with colour, gemstone combination, and the juxtaposition of modern artifacts, such as cameo pendants, keys, skulls and iron wings with traditional symbols from the natural world like Turtle and Owl. Embracing the gifts from Mother Nature, each hand-crafted item is designed to combine the natural beauty of semi-precious gemstones with contemporary materials. In each piece of jewellery, gemstones are woven into the foundation of the piece, bestowing their transformative properties to the wearer, and letting the beauty and energies of the natural stones be the focus. The underlying symbolism in her designs tells a story of growth, healing and of extraordinary transformation.
Making for mental health...
Connecting with our creativity helps us to be resilient. In an effort to share her gifts and help build community resilience, Currie has participated in the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s One Brave Night campaign since 2017 by creating one-of-a-kind hemp bracelets with all proceeds donated to the campaign.
